People looking for the best orangeries Manchester has to offer may be considering a spot of DIY this over the bank holiday weekend.
Many people tackle the DIY to-do list when they have a couple of days off, and the good weather forecast over the next couple of days means that thousands of people will be dusting off the tools to tackle that wonky bannister, leaking tap or tiered wallpaper.
Unfortunately, Manchester has one of the highest rates of DIY disaster according to a recent study of the UK.
Half of people surveyed believe they are “good or very good” and DIY, but up to one third say they have had a DIY disaster.
These accidents include incidents with hammers, starting fires or destroying wallpaper.
Leeds is the most disaster prone city with 45 per cent of people saying they have had a disaster, closely followed by Bristol at 43 per cent and Manchester at 42 per cent, according to the Courier.
Some of these disasters can be extremely costly with 17% of respondents saying that they have had to spend £500 or over rectifying a problem caused by DIY experimentation.
Many of these problems were caused by people underestimating the cost of projects.
People attempting to build their own kitchen, a particularly difficult project, and expecting it to cost just £1,000 were the most likely to experience costly DIY disasters, the paper reported.
