Better make sure your double glazing is working efficiently, as forecasters are saying that the UK can expect to see snow and freezing temperatures over the next couple of days. Of course, they’ve been issuing similar statements for the last few weeks and months, it feels like, so it would be understandable for you to be a bit blasé and complacent about the impending terrible weather – but it’s generally best to err on the side of caution if you can.
The Met Office has now issued yellow warnings for ice in south-west England, parts of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland – and Manchester saw its first flurry of snow this morning (February 9th), so perhaps there is more than a grain of truth to this set of forecasts this time.
Discussing average temperatures for this time of year, a Met Office spokeswoman was quoted by the Daily Telegraph as saying: “In London, it should be 2-3 degrees C above freezing at night and over the weekend it is expected to be minus 1 degree C. That is 4-5 degrees C below average.”
To prepare your house for snow and ice, head outside to grit your decking and driveway to prevent slips. And go around the house to see if there are any draughts in any windows that could do with plugging up to stop warm air escaping.
