A few weeks ago, they were saying that we were in line for a white Christmas, then they changed their minds and the weather was unseasonably warm. And now, with just a few short days to go until December 25th, forecasters appear to have changed their minds yet again and are now saying that we could see snow this week.
Those in the north-west certainly look to be affected by somewhat inclement weather, with meteorologists saying rain and high winds are likely, as well as snow on higher grounds – so who knows? We could well have a white Christmas after all.
Spokesman for the Met Office Grahame Madge was quoted by the Manchester Evening News as saying: “Currently, we have a large area of high pressure preventing weather coming in from the Atlantic, which is why the weather has stayed fairly mild of late. The lower pressure is being diverted to Iceland at the moment, as the higher pressure heads it away. This higher pressure will move next week, allowing for weather from the Atlantic to move in.”
What this means for homeowners is making sure that your pipes are well insulated and that your roof is in good condition, able to withstand any amount of snowfall. With Christmas just days away, now is certainly not the time for a disaster at home so take all the precautions necessary to ensure you and your family can enjoy the festive season completely, without having to worry.
