Saving money is one of the biggest benefits of being green at home and making eco-friendly improvements around the house – and now new research has revealed that double or triple glazing is in fact the most popular of all the green renovation projects people could undertake.
Figures from M&S Bank show that 72 per cent of homeowners in the UK would go for double or triple glazing, while 70 per cent would have loft insulation installed, 52 per cent would choose an energy-efficient boiler, nine per cent would go for solar panels and one per cent would opt for a wind turbine.
Head of products with the bank Paul Stokes said: “It’s great to see that, homeowners recognise the benefits of making just a few simple, everyday changes to be more environmentally friendly. Over three-quarters have already made improvements to help them go green and with just over half (53 per cent) seriously considering some sort of future energy saving home improvement, it’s clear that green improvements are at the forefront of homeowner’s minds.”
You could also soon see your energy bills reduced thanks to the government (yes, really), as £320 million in funding has just been made available to create heat networks in cities around England and Wales.
This is known as district heating, which has long been a popular way to heat homes and businesses in Denmark, and works by distributing heat from a single resource to meet demand in urban areas. Any heat leftover is then sent back into the network to reduce waste.
