Double glazing is one way to make your home more energy efficient (and it’s certainly one of the best ways), but there are a few handy little ways out there that you could think about if you want to really give yourself a green boost this year.
Radiator foil
Did you know that if you foil behind your radiator you can actually make your house stay a lot cooler in the summer and keep the heat in during the winter? Apparently, it can actually cut heat lost by up to 50 per cent!
Chimney Sheep
What about buying a draught excluder for your chimney? Chimneys work by drawing air up and out of your house but if you’ve got your central heating on and the fire isn’t lit, this warm air will just go up the chimney. A Chimney Sheep is felted wool that can help plug the gap to stop warm air escaping.
Thermal liners
You can now buy specialist lining paper that can help insulate your walls and ceiling, keeping the heat in and not letting it escape through the walls.
Different bedding
Get yourself a thicker duvet so you stay warm at night without having to have the heat on. Some believe that the type of material can also make a difference, so why don’t you swap out your cotton for some flannel instead?
Layer the curtains
A bit of DIY never hurt anyone. Why don’t you sew some thick fabric or fleece to the backs of your curtains to help them keep the heat in more effectively?
