Security is something that all homeowners should be concerned with, no matter where they live – and yet new research has revealed that 32 per cent of people in the UK have actually left the house with the windows open.
According to figures from The Co-operative Insurance, 22 per cent don’t use their fitted burglar alarm and 13 per cent have gone out with either the back or front door open – scary since domestic burglary makes up 15 per cent of all crime relating to property, with some 789,000 instances every year.
“Burglary is not a nice experience for anyone who finds themselves in this situation, yet many security risks can be easily prevented. It is easy to be distracted when you’re busy getting ready to go away for the summer holidays but it is worth taking time to make some quick security checks for your own peace of mind,” head of home insurance with the group Caroline Hunter said.
One way you can increase your security at home – apart from locking the windows and doors when you leave – is by investing in Tameside double glazing. Having secure double glazing in place means that a prospective burglar will have to try quite hard to break in through a window and will make an awful lot of noise in the process. They’ll have no choice but to break the panes of glass – something they won’t be keen to do since it will likely attract a fair amount of attention.
When having your glazing installed, make sure the windows are beaded internally so that burglars won’t be able to remove the glass from the frame. If windows are beaded externally, all they’ll have to do is remove this and they can easily take the panes out.
