New Year: The Perfect Time To Check Your Home Security

When you’re busy making new year’s resolutions, don’t forget to think about your home and how you could improve it.
Development director of the Master Locksmiths Association Dr Steffan George told the South Yorkshire Times that people could benefit from becoming more security conscious in 2017.
He recommends that homeowners examine their home security and, if in doubt, get a professional home security check.
Dr George explained that keeping on top of small maintenance jobs, such as keeping windows and frames in good repair, replacing any rusted or old locks on patio and front doors, and fixing broken windows, can make your home less of a target for burglars.
Thieves will look for homes that appear to be in a poor state of repair, he said, as this typically makes them easier to break into.
He also suggests that people get into better security habits when leaving home, including double checking that doors and windows are securely locked, and resisting the temptation to leave a spare key hidden outside.
