Average UK House Prices Rise

The average price of a home in the UK rose by 7.2 per cent during 2016, according to the latest figures from the Land Registry and Office for National Statistics (ONS).

In the UK, the average home now costs £220,000, which rises to £236,000 in England alone, whereas average property values in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all below the £200,000 mark.

Average house prices in the north-west of England hit £152,000 at the end of 2016 having steadily climbed in recent months.

Earlier this month the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) noted that new instructions among their members fell in January, indicating that fewer people are putting their homes on the market.

RICS stressed that a lack of supply of suitable homes across the country is putting upward pressure on house prices. This lack of supply is impacting not only first-time buyers, but also those who are looking to move to a bigger property, as there are fewer options open to them.
