North-West Noise Nuisance Hotspots Revealed!

In 2015, there were an impressive 39,960 noise nuisance complaints made across the whole of the north-west, with a Cirrus Research study now revealing the top hotspots in the region where noise has proven to be problematic for many.
Interestingly, Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria came top of the poll, with 856 complaints over the year with a population of 69,100, which is the equivalent of around 12.5 complaints per 1,000 people. St Helens came in second with 917 complaints and a population of 202,200, while Preston claimed the third spot with 1,066 complaints and a population of 142,000.
Local authorities in Greater Manchester made up 11,222 of the total number of complaints for the region – 28 per cent, in fact. Bury was top, followed by Manchester Borough and Oldham, while the quietest place was found to be Stockport.
Issues raised by people included noisy neighbours, loud music in the home, shouting, barking dogs and car and home alarms, while in Manchester Borough noise from clubs and bars featured in the top three.
“It seems that certain trends are emerging. People are now much more aware of their rights and more likely to complain rather than grin and bear it. Elderly people are more likely to complain as they spend more time indoors. Also, with more homes now having wooden or laminate floors, as well as wall-mounted TVs, we are seeing more domestic complaints as there is less to insulate the noise within the home,” Cirrus Research stated.
