No Of Energy Customers Switching Tariff Rises By 30%

More and more people are hoping to lower their energy bills these days, as findings have shown there has been a 30 per cent increase in the number of customers switching suppliers in the first six months of the year.

Earlier this week, Ofgem released data that revealed 3.8 million people swapped their energy provider between January and June, which included 1.6 million customers changing their gas companies and 2.2 million switching their electricity suppliers.

In total, the number of domestic customers making changes to their energy providers was one million more than during the same six-month period in 2015.

Ofgem senior partner of Consumers and Competition Rachel Fletcher said: “Great deals are there for the taking. There are very competitive offers and many more suppliers to choose from, and that’s why more consumers are switching.”

According to Margot James, Small Business, Consumers, and Corporate Responsibility minister there are more than three times the number of energy providers available now than in 2010.

Nowadays, there are over 40 suppliers to choose from, with tariffs ranging considerably. Indeed, the difference between the cheapest deal on July 28th 2016 and the average tariff on the same date was £308.
