Do You Consider Energy Efficiency When Making Home Improvements?

If you’re planning to undertake a home improvement project this year, whether it’s fitting a new bathroom or converting your loft, you should be thinking about how you can make your home more energy efficient at the same time.

The Energy Saving Trust has highlighted the logic of carrying out energy efficiency projects at the same time as doing other work.

In a blog post earlier this month, the organisation pointed out that if you’re already disrupting your home by, for example, installing a new kitchen, you may as well replace your outdated boiler at the same time.

Philip Selwood, Energy Saving Trust chief executive, explained that doing things like this, or fitting improved insulation when you’re carrying out a loft conversion has numerous benefits.

“Not only will you make your home warmer and cheaper to run, but you’ll save on the cost and hassle of hiring another tradesperson at a later date,” he stated.

This is particularly true if you’re intending to carry out a major home remodelling project, which could give you the opportunity to fit new double glazing in Stockport while also replacing your kitchen or bathroom, for example.

Although it may increase the cost of the project you had planned by a small amount, it is cheaper and less disruptive than going back to make further changes in the future.

Even if you don’t have any home improvement projects planned, you could benefit from undertaking a home energy audit. This is a chance to see if there are any simple steps you could take to reduce your energy consumption, whether it’s turning out lights when you leave the room, or buying a draft excluder.
