Most people have heard of double glazing, but it pays to know everything you can about the technique if you’re hoping to upgrade your doors and windows in Manchester.
As the name suggests, double-glazed products have two panes of glass, which are typically separated by a layer of air. In contrast, single-glazed windows and doors have just one pane of glass and no air gap. So what are the benefits of double glazing?
More efficient heating
The space between the two panes of double glazing acts as an insulating barrier, which prevents warm air from escaping your house. According to the Energy Saving Trust, the most efficient windows often use gas between the two panes, such as argon, krypton or xenon.
Reduce noise
Double-glazed windows and doors don’t just keep heat in; they also keep noise out. The air layer and airtight sealing that is common to double glazing can be extremely useful if you are located in inner-city areas or have noisy neighbours!
