Don’t Neglect Your Garden Spaces, Homeowners Advised

Home refurbishments understandably take a lot of time and you should only really do one project at once, or you’re sure to find that your house always has a half-done look and nothing ever really gets completed.

However, instead of focusing on more typical renovation projects like doing up the bathroom or kitchen, why don’t you start with the garden and your outside space first so that at least from a glance from passersby it looks as though your property is as you’d like it.

Lloyds Bank Insurance’s latest Britain at Home report has found that 34 per cent of homeowners have untidy gardens and outdoor areas, while 18 per cent have buildings outside that are in a state of disrepair and 18 per cent use their outdoor spaces as dumping grounds.

Having an untidy or unattractive garden can apparently incite feelings of discomfort, upset and irritation – which no one likes to experience. So why don’t you do all you can to minimise the effects by giving your garden a bit of a makeover this summer? The weather’s supposed to be great so now’s the time to start thinking about it.

You could have it repaved, for example, or sow a new lawn to create a pleasing aspect when you look through your patio doors. New plants and hanging baskets can help, as can new trees and shrubs. And don’t forget a few garden ornaments either, while you’re at it. Investing in some comfortable and attractive garden furniture will also ensure you spend more time outside – which means you’re more likely to want it to look nice.
