6 Orangeries To Visit For A Spot Of Inspiration

Homeowners considering having orangeries installed at their Merseyside property might want to think about going on a little tour of the UK to visit similar conservatories and extensions to see if there are any ideas they can pinch for their own designs back at home. Here are just a few of our favourite orangeries and conservatories here at Malbern Windows & Doors.
University of Oxford Botanic Gardens
This is the oldest of its kind in the UK, home to almost 6,000 different types of plant so you’re sure to find some inspiration in there somewhere! Make sure you check out the different glasshouses before you leave, as this will also show you what can be achieved in terms of actual conservatory or orangery design.
The Isla Gladstone Conservatory
A little bit closer to home to us here at Malbern Windows is the Isla Gladstone conservatory, one of the most iconic venues to be found in the whole of Liverpool. It dates all the way back to 1870 and has been fully restored and modernised over the years, yet still retains a serious sense of historic charm.
Fancy a jaunt up to London town? Then make sure you head off to see the simply stunning Kensington Palace orangery before you leave. This baroque conservatory was built in 1704-1705 for Mary’s younger sister, Anne, who became queen when William died. She used the venue for entertaining and had lots of parties in the orangery… a tradition that you may well want to continue once you have your own at home!
The Palm House is an incredible place to visit and each time you go will be nothing like the last, thanks to the time of day you visit, the kind of light that floods into the space and seasonal growth of the plants contained therein. You’ll be going back time and time again.
Pop off to Sheffield to see one of the biggest temperate glasshouses to be built in the UK in the last 100 years. You’ll find it next to the Peace Gardens and the Millennium Galleries, so you’ll have a lovely day out if you do decide to go and see this particular glasshouse.
As conservatories go, the Eden Project isn’t exactly your typical example but it’s certainly worth exploring and the building itself really is a sight to behold. It’s the biggest conservatory in the world and is in fact large enough to fit the Tower of London inside it!
